tHENKs Jef!

Jeff is this 48% your initial transfer or the increment after this?
(mime is the increment (with CBT)) let me know a changerate of 48% for a test lab sounds like much...
the optimised for WAN can make some different but not such a big one.
you can also contact me via skype if you need (just check the right colum on this website)

Hi Henk,

This is an excellent article. Well written and easy to follow.

I have tried this in a test environment and I am not seeing the same small 3% data transfer to my WAN target. I am seeing about 48% of the VM being transfered. I am using Veeam 5.02 with VMWare vSphere 4.1. Maybe I am doing something wrong.

There are a few things I did differently. 1) I used Ubuntu 10.04 Server. 2) I used the root account instead of a standard user. 3) In the backup job I changed the "Storage, Optimzed for:" setting to "WAN target" under "Advanced Settings".

Do you know why I wouldn't be seeing the same size decrease as you?

I thought 20 steps.. thats a lot, but, after reading, this is only 20 clicks! Amazing how little space the backup takes, and how easy the setup is. nice experimenting Henk!
