VMware ThinApp 4.6, lets Application Virtualize VMware!
I had to do some quick new tests with VMware ThinApp 4.6, and WOW this is really firework!
As a test I “thinnapp-ed” VMware vSphere client 4.1 so I could put that on a USB stick and start it easy on every PC(!)
In just a few easy steps steps this process is fully “packaged” and you have one executable.
step 1:
make a clean windowsXP pro SP3 VM with ALL updates installed. (make a snapshot, so you can re-use this clean machine when needed)
Install VMware ThinApp 4.6, and start the VMware ThinApp 4.6 (ThinApp) prescan…

After the prescan minimize the Graphical User Interface (GUI) and normal install the VMware client 4.1 (like you normal do)
Now Startup the VMware client normaly (so the DNS info is also “thinnapped”), go to the first time security warnings, choose your preferred view, and disable the ëdit ->client settings “Show Getting Started” tab when wanted.
close the VMware vSphere Client 4.1 and maximize the thinapp GUI back.
Select postscan, run it and on the next screen ONLY select VMware vSphere Client.exe.

select next, and on the next screen, leave “everyone”selected.
next again and leave “Full write acces…”selected.
next once more and leave the “User profile…” settings selected.
next again, and select Yes, so you help VMware to make this software even better
, and next.
on the next screen change the Inventory (see below) and select next.

Change the to “Use on of the entry points” (see below) and select Save (and yes on the extra remark)

let VMware Thinapp do all the magic (can take a wile
)
Select Build on the next screen (see below)

and let VMware Thinapp do the build magic…
Select Finish on the last screen (below) and save the executable on the USB stick.

Thats it!!!
