Free iSCSI Target
perfect for (home) test environments on ESX(i) or any hypervisor is Starwind.
they even offer a free iSCSI Target (to 2 TB).
This is very simpel and powerfull (windows) software, that you can run easily in a VM.
This way you can setup an iSCSI Target, so you can run a (iSCSI) shared storage device which you can use for (e.g) (storage)vMotion.
You can even take this one step further and run this on your notebook (for demo/test)
I have a VMware Workstation on my notebook, with some VM’s running on them, on is a WindowsXP Pro x64 with Starwind and vCenter running here, and two ESX(i) VM’s, with some demo VM’s running in ESX(i), stored on this Starwind iSCSI Target.
This way you have a full gear running on your notebook, and even vMotion etc is working(!)
